Chef LeeZ review # 286 “Fun, educational, and yummy – this is why I came to Thailand

5 of 5 starsReviewed December 26, 2013 NEW
Chef LeeZ really cares about food and about you. When you sign up for her class, she delivers detailed instructions on how to get there, her phone number to call if anything goes haywire (wrong line on the river boat to get there for us), and other helpful hints. The beginning of the class starts with a warm introduction to her and Thai cuisine, followed by a trip to an authentic market you will never forget. She goes through every ingredient thoroughly and every ingredient you should avoid using in your cooking. This was extremely informative and showed how much she loves food, cooking, her country and frankly, all of us. Now the cooking. Wow. I have new techniques down and a newfound appreciation for additives that may be complex to make but provide ALL the flavor. You just have to take the time and effort to get those ingredients, do it right, and make Chef LeeZ proud. We made three soups, two curries, papaya salad, and desert. The portions are just right to make it through. She was so sweet to put a candle on our sticky rice with mango to make my husband’s birthday memorable. We’ve had a great time in Bangkok but this was the highlight of the city, by far.

Chef LeeZ TA Review # 285 "Fun, educational, hands-on and authentic!"

5 of 5 starsReviewed December 22, 2013 NEW
One of the highlights of my recent trip to Bangkok was Chef Leez cooking class. The class was comprehensive, yet fun and functional. The visit to the market gave great insight into Thai culture and cooking. As a vegetarian, it was delightful to receive the accommodated instruction for vegetarians. I found her cooking to be very natural and healthy, exactly what I was looking for. Her sense of humor was superb which made the class that much more enjoyable. We've already decided to take another trip next year and take part 2 of the cooking class. ( We did the odd day class, next year we will do the even day class.) Looking forward!!!

Chef LeeZ Ta Review # 284 "I cooked and it didn't taste terrible"

5 of 5 starsReviewed December 22, 2013 NEW
I'm no cook, and honestly my friend and I just took the course for fun and for lack of anything planned for that day. It turned out to be a very good decision, as the class was ridiculously fun and informative. You start by walking your little basket to a local market nearby and get loaded up with all kinds of fresh foods, while being informed of the fake stuff you should never buy ("that's full of MSG"; "that '100% lime juice' is actually vinegar"). Then it's back to the school for a cooking lineup full of jokes and laughter.

My favorite part? Cheef LeeZ is open to suggestions! I told her I wanted to make a cake (honestly I was half-joking), so we did. We made banana rice cake, and it was delicious! We also had Thai Iced Tea, and any dish we wanted she would arrange, free of extra charge.

Chef LeeZ Thai cooking school class, T A review # 283, "Real Cooking school"

4 of 5 starsReviewed December 18, 2013 NEW via mobile
There are several cooking schools in Bangkok and at least three on the street where Miss LeeZ is located. Don't be fooled by the others, if you want to learn how to cook Thai food and why Thai food is distinctive then Miss LeeZ is the place to go.

“So Glad I Went With Chef Leez!” T A Review # 282

5 of 5 starsReviewed December 13, 2013 NEW
Definitely a must-do if you're in Bangkok. She was so knowledgeable and friendly, and I really learned a lot about Thai cooking and the culture there. Since I cook a lot, this was definitely a class worth taking since we also got the recipes to take home! I had a great time and look forward to returning for some of her other classes!

CHef LeeZ - Cooking class Trip Advisor review # 281 "One of the Best cooking schools!!"

5 of 5 starsReviewed December 12, 2013 NEW
I was recently given the opportunity to travel to Thailand over the summer and I would have considered myself a fool for not taking it. Of course I visited a lot of places like the Chiang Mai bazaar but I had to sign up for at least one class at Chef LeeZ Thai Cooking School. The classrooms are gorgeous, stainless steal everywhere; a chef's dream. And my instructor was great. I told him that I was allergic to peanuts and he said that was not a problem and that we'd work around it. We were able to go to the market which wasn't that far and pick out our own ingredients for the dishes that we wanted to create. I've never had that much fun in any cooking class that I've signed up for.

We spent a great time of 10.00 to 14.30. During the visit to the market in the beginning of lesson, Leez teaches students how to shop in Thailand and how to recognize the good and bad products. Leez mastered her subject perfectly and possesses the art of teaching in all simplicity Thai dishes more delicious in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We took great pleasure in this course or minutes shall not be counted. At our request she also shows us other recipes that were not in the program without the slightest hesitation. Hard to beat, especially return to a classic Thai restaurant after this level of quality!

This was great. Chef Lee not only teaches you how to cook, she also gives a lot of insider information on eating in Thailand - what to watch out of for, where to eat, etc. I would recommend doing this as one of your first things when you get to Thailand. It is a great way to start a trip.

Chef LeeZ Review # 277 "Delicious and Fun"

“Delicious and fun”

Even if you're not interested in cooking, the food you eat will be the best in Thailand! Really was the most delicious Pad Thai I've ever eaten, and you can see why when you see how Chef Leez uses fresh, raw ingredients - we even squeezed shredded coconut to get the cream!
Chef Leez is such a friendly, interesting lady and made it very fun. When we were running late she spoke to the taxi driver to give fastest route and helped us get to our next destination after the class.
I highly recommend this course (you can't sight-see the whole time). Thanks Chef Leez for a great course and amazing food.

Chef LeeZ - Trip Advisor review #276 "Great Experience"

My wife and I really enjoyed Chef LeeZ cooking class on one of our free days in Bangkok. Chef is a highly educated, talented chef. She speaks perfect English, and makes the class fun for all! We loved going to the market to buy our produce, where Chef gave us hints about finding the best raw materials for our feast.

We made several dishes, and she allowed us to customize our food to eliminate seafood. Everything we made was delicious.

She gave us printed recipes so that we can try it again at home, assuming we can find some of the produce that may be difficult to find in the USA.

Chef LeeZ T A review #275 "Great Customer Service"

“Great Customer Service”
5 of 5 starsReviewed November 27, 2013 NEW
Unfortunately, we were unable to get across town to the school as our hotel was on the other side of the protests - and the local taxi drivers didn't want to get caught in the traffic.

Chef LeeZ was very understanding, helpful, and accommodating. Was kind enough to refund my deposit and sent me a very nice email with recipes from the class, and inviting me to join them the next time we're in Bangkok.

Overall, wish I could have gotten to the school for the class, but I can certainly recommend them based on their customer service.

“Fantastic food (safe to eat), wonderful teacher, fun half-day activity”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 26 November 2013
We had a fantastic time with Chef Lee in the Group Class (we were the only two people today, so it was similar to the Private Class). Book a class near the start of your holiday for a safe and authentic introduction to Thai cuisine.

It started with a quick walk around a small local marketplace. Chef Lee told us about finding good produce and never to trust labels on Thai packaged foods!

You cook more than 6 different Thai dishes from scratch, including soups, noodles, curries, papaya salad, and dessert! Chef Lee and the kitchen assistant prepare the quantities and ingredients, so you only need to chop fresh ingredients and cook the food.

The experience is like an interactive cooking show! Chef Lee is very entertaining and knows so much about cooking and Thai cuisine. We enjoyed cooking up a storm, without us having to do the boring grunt work (preparation and cleaning up). All the food was delicious and freshly prepared, which left us feeling very full and happy.

Thanks again, Chef Lee! We'll send more Aussies your way :)

Chef LeeZ - Review # 272 on Trip Advisor - Thai Street Food Will Never be the Same.

Due to recent protests, my cousin and I were 30 minutes late to our Chef LeeZ's class but she was completely understanding and called to check up on us. She even spoke to our taxi driver over the phone to give him directions.

I really enjoyed my experience with Chef LeeZ. The food we made was authentic, natural and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately every other Thai meal I had after this class was disappointing.

The portion sizes were good and we were all very full at the end. (Don't have a big breakfast before you go!) We joined a group class and there were only 4 of us so were definitely all given individual treatment. Chef LeeZ was funny, knowledgeable and a great host.

I do have to agree with a previous review that comments about the use of MSG and artificial products getting tiresome. It was good to know, but I felt that it was overdone. It still doesn't change my 5 star rating of the experience though.

I'd love to be able to recreate these dishes (especially the sticky rice with mango dessert) but I don't think many of the ingredients are available back home.
